Michael Jackson’s family has sued for an estate robbery that happened shortly after the music icons death in 2009. According to TMZ, court documents accuse Jeffrey Phillips of stealing a variety of possessions from Michael’s estate amid the chaos that followed his death.
After Michael’s death Jeffrey was reportedly engaged to one of Michael’s siblings, which is how he gained acces to the musician’s estate. The court documents don’t reveal which sibling he was engaged to. Over a week had passed since Jeffrey had last visited Michael at his Carolwood house where the robbery took place. In particular, he is charged with taking Michael’s belongings, including his clothes, iPhone, computers, hard drives, driver’s license, company documents and even prescription of his medicines.
Even the pyajamas that Michael was wearing at the time of his death as well as handwritten notes were taken by Jeffrey. It is unclear what Michael’s family held off on filling the case until now. It’s also not known how much the entire value of the stolen property is or how much compensation Jackson’s family is asking for. The case was filled on Friday, the day before the singer of Billie Jeans’ thirteenth death anniversary.
After the death Phillips’ email, which stated that he had a number of Michael’s memorable things he wanted to put for auction, was given by the auctioneer to the estate. He mentioned that the sunglasses were also Missing from the house.
The estate claims they were only made aware of the theft in 2021 when a person contacted the Estate to inquire about the provenance of certain items of Jackson’s personal property that Phillips was trying to consign for sale at auction. This is despite the fact that it seems impossible that so many items could be missing for such a long time.
Michael’s estate has recently been involved in other legal disputes in addition to this one. The announcement comes more than a year after Michael Jackson’s business were cleared of helping the artist abuse youngsters, as claimed.
